Old Orchard Beach deep sea

Post by Big Bear »

Had an opportunity to get out on the big pond. Fished Bomerang, Tantas and Trinidad. Caught and released lots and lots of sub-legal haddock, all sizes of silver and red Whiting, big Pollack, Redfish, Cusk and some big Cod (Not in season but if it was we could’ve kept a few of them). And the dogs… Had to fight through them, but it was doable. Trolled for tuna for a bit but didn’t see any. Fished 200 to 290 feet of water. All and all a nice time. Launched at Pine Point.

2-4’ swells and mostly flat with 10kt wind out of North on our way out and then shifted E 10-15kt with some whitecaps on way in. Following sea so was a dry ride all around. Here is some video a few miles from the pine point launch on our way out and also when we buzzed the OOB pier in Saco Bay when we returned:

The only thing better than being on the ocean is… being on the ocean with an accurate weather forecast. NOAA was right on which makes it nice 15-20mi+ offshore. Love these pictures too right off by the pier at OOB. The Key West 239FS is perfect for this, not too heavy for towing long distance, launches well at all tides and big enough to handle reasonable seas with a bunch of people able to fish without crowding. Easily bottom fishes 6 people.
