Launched out of Converse with my son this morning. Saw fish chasing bait on the surface so we set up right off. No takers but ran into a few weed blobs so turned and went towards Thompson’s. When we were about to Thompson’s we hooked into double lakers…. After a few minutes on we lost both lakers lol… turned and headed to Split Rock. Lots of bait but no bites. Decided to pick up and head to Porters Bay. Set up over 73-90’ and set riggers at 72’. Started seeing them stacked on the bottom and didn’t take long and we had a fish on. Got in the fist laker and my boy noticed it had a UVM pink tag on the belly. Got the tag info and set it free. Managed to catch and loose a few till about 10am and they shut down. Headed back over to Thompson’s Point and managed to catch and loose a few more lakers. No salmon this trip but was still fun catching lakers. Temps started to heat up after noon time so we packed it up and called it a day. Was nice to see Relax coming in as we pulled out of the water. Was able to chat some with Matt before heading home. Was a good morning on the water for sure

Forgot… the orange Michigan Stinger was what caught 90% of the fish. Saw it on a Maine forum this past spring a guy was slamming salmon on it. No salmon for me but the lakers loved it!! It’s in the Stingray size.

John - I was with Reelax and it was great catching up with you at the launch. Cool catch with the tagged laker! Nice rig too! Glad you and your son got out!

My personal opinion is that the spoon is appears a little large for our LC salmon. I typically have worse luck with larger hardware and I think that it's partially due to the larger hooks.meangreen1 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 3:30 pm Forgot… the orange Michigan Stinger was what caught 90% of the fish. Good to see you at the launch with the different boat and your son John. Rare laker indeed with that radio transmitter in the fish:)
I wonder what
UVM will have to say.
Fish on!!

We just got back from Lake Ontario and we had great luck catching 23-27” landlocked with large yellow spoons “super slim dream weavers”. All were caught on 300/ 400 copper set up’s. They were specifically riding the 60-65 degree water. We will be giving it a try this weekend to see if the salmon in lake Champlain will go after the same set up. Who knows?? Maybe they will like the switch up from CI.Black Ghost (Ken) wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 6:56 amMy personal opinion is that the spoon is appears a little large for our LC salmon.
