My first report Saturday Sept 10 on Champlain
Hi, my first report and please feel free to delete if not in the right place or not useful. We traveled down to Converse bay from Mallett's bay at first light. The lake started out with a north wind and was pretty rough and dirty, and got worse as we traveled further south. If you're traveling the lake you need to be careful and diligent with a good lookout. We saw whole trees n the water and many large logs and limbs.
Now on the fishing, pretty dismal for newbies like us. We fished in front of converse, across from converse, the scotch bonnet, and places in between, with various honey bee and crazy ivan lures at depths starting at 30- down to 60' and with a few lure changes including mooselooks and a flasher/trolling fly combo. No Salmon, a few perch. But in general the water looked like chocolate milk below otter creek (?) and the going was rough even for us in a 33' boat. We fished both shores and even in the narrows channel and finally went back to what we know. We went over to button bay for lunch and some calmer water and then threw a few lizards and senkos in the water around rock island and boated a 3' 10oz smallmouth on a purple senko (a real bass magnet for us) so the trip was ok from that perspective. I'll post a pic later, as we're heading out again. Coming home was a bit perilous but we dodged all the wood and made it home in one piece..
I know there were some of you on the water, I monitor 16, 68 and heard what i think must be many of the handles of people from here. Would love to hear what you guys did. From ch 68 traffic seemed similar.

Same results for us.
We didn't launch untill 11ish or so. We fished Converse/Thompson's Point area first, then moved over toward Split Rock and trolled the NY shoreline south to Snakes Den.
Rough, windy, muddy, debris strewn waters.
Perch and perch...then a few more perch.
I did hear one boat mention they got one small silver.
Tough water conditions, tough time of the year. Tough fishing when there was a big ol' moon on a crystal clear night prior to fishing!
Yup...we did a bit of chattering on 68. Maybe you even heard Matt and I tangled lines during a photo op?
Slide-Diver meets Lead-core.
No winners.
But I did get to hear a reel scream!

When I heard the comotion on the radio, I thought someone broke the monotony of the perch bite. Bummer about lost gear, but like you said Raz, it is nice to hear a drag go on a slow day.
Good to finally meet you at the launch today, better fishing and less wind next time
Dave

I was wondering what happened to Eye. Thanks for the first report! vtfisherlady
We hope to get out this Wednesday. Where? I dunno. 5 weeks ago was our last outing. Maybe main lake targeting steelies.

Hey nwhavnbill, do you love your new boat ?
Maybe skunked, but it's better a journey in boat than a journay to make the laundry/dinner for the week... (i'm concerned)

I don't think Lady would be properly dressed for the Frostbite.
