5/3-5/4 salmon chasin

Post by Reelax »

:ugeek: Had my Brother and his buddy Aaron on board this week a couple days. These are the guys who have houses in Alaska on the Kenai and took Theresa and I on our adventure last fall. Aaron is gonna expand his fishin to places like Homer and Seward for ocean run salmon and barn door halibut. This year he is trailering his newly purchased 23’ Parker across Canada to being home to fish AK… Aaron in stalled Scottie’s and wanted some down rigger practice. So hey. Let’s go fish salmon a couple days before ya leave!

We launched Friday out of converse to only 1 boat in parking lot at 6. Started in Townfarm. Steady bite all day but lakers have moved in since last Friday and bite is mix of both. Still 5-25fow for bite but now fish have moved some into deeper waters are also active out to 50fow or more:)

Aaron had a blast and took home many lakers as he has recipes for these baby’s. He cooked some into a laker bake that had muchrooms and cheddar at that was amazing!!!!

Also brought salmon home but I thought it interesting he wanted a limit of lakers?

Sat we were gonna shoot for walleye in the winooski to mix things up. Well it looks like a good year for walleye;) the launch was so full of trailers at 6am we couldn’t park. So… back to converse;)

On Sat the fleet was out and we got to interact with other boats. Ramrod. Selic, Searuner, Fishdawg, AveJoe, and scrubby were all out to play and we had a blast.

Due to the late start after bumping off the winooski we were struggling. Missed the whole 1st lite bite:(

AveJoe calls us and says we are in double digits in kingsland. Come on down. I felt like a player on the price is right:) we were already in front of Thorpe Brooke and all this water is in play so we made the mistake of trolling to him. I’m the ~1.5 hrs it takes to get there the bite shifted:( and they battled a monster! (See video on Joes report)
Once we go to the area we started picking back away at the pods of fish. The bait was amazing in Hawkins and Kingsland. Both salmon and lakers active all day. Still a slower bite for us:(
But we were getting fish. Had some issues like a big fish break off an open duo-snap and a poke bite off in the mix of issues during day.

Then Ramrod comes on radio and says they have a personal best day going…. Come on Down!

lol- we played price is right again.

This time picking and running the 2 miles. Cause Searunner Comes on radio and Fishdawg tells us they just landed triples right next to ramrod… lol

Zoom zoom.

Bam back into the bite. Almost all salmon here. One right after another if we could focus on fishin and stop tellin Alaska stories;)

We circle and fish next to these 2 lonely boats on their bite for an ur before we decide we had enough.

Had a fun 2 days of fishin, good shake down for Rotary Derby in 30 days... Felt like I could pay back a little of what was given to Theresa and I last August on the Kenai, so it was special!

Fish on!
