Fishing aboard the C-Hawk 7/25 and 7/26 Providence / Stave

Post by digitroll (ron) »

It's the second year I get to fish with C-Hawk while he is on his 10 day vacation up here. Went out yesterday and fished 4 hours from 9:30 am - 1:30 pm. 3 knockoffs with nobody home and this handsome male steelhead Jeff landed down 85 feet at 56 degrees. The heavy bee was the winner yesterday.

Today we fished a short window from 9:30 till Noon with a nice south breeze. Started off with 4 releases in 20 minutes on the same rigger. A 7 lb Lake trout and a 19" fat salmon that jumped several times. Finished with 3 more releases and a small lake trout. Heavy Bee's again was getting the action today.

Great time Jeff and thanks for your generosity to fish on the C-Hawk!

Our best success was running 140-180 fow with pods of bait and a few marks. Riggers down 70-80 feet. This Alwife was in the Steelie and I used a large 4" Williams spoon to compare the size of the bait for reference.

Thanks for joining me Ron , always fun fishing with you! Thanks for posting too. Kind of easy fishing deep water, no contours to follow, not much turning, just set up and go, cover a lot of ground, but definatley go back where you get a knock-off or a fish.

Thanks for the report Ron and C-Hawk. Glad you were able to bring nice catches to the boat.

Nice job in tough conditions. I was out early for a few hours early on Wednesday and it was no picnic. 3 footers at least. Makes you appreciate the Autopilot.

from the picture of the bee and the alewife, looks like the spoon could be turned around with the fat end in front, slim end in the back? :?:

Anyone thought to switch it around?

That's what you get for fishing from the desk today :ugeek:

One of those harvesters of the sea.
I think before my days are done,
I want to be a fisherman.

Great idea. Maybe try putting an extra bend in it for a little action and drag the fat end first - I'm gonna try it!

I've tried that reversing a few times. It works. But I haven't tried it enough to be committed to it.
