Salmon on a Stick

I don't catch many salmon with stickbaits, even when I'm actually trying to catch them with little Yozuri Pin Minnows in the spring. But for some reason a salmon hit this 11 cm Rapala on 13 colors of lead that I was using to target lakers on Sunday. Nice surprise to see a silver fish leap out of the...

Re: Good day out of Westport

That's a good day for this time of year !

I'm curious about the pike minnows - were either of the hits on those salmon ? I was on the VT side across from Westport the next day and got a salmon on a Rapala so maybe they're biting bigger bait than the usual small salmon spoons ??

Re: Return after 3 years (since august 2019) IS LC

Welcome back to Champlain !

That's a nice big smallmouth. Once in a while I hook one while trolling around 50 feet down this time of year. They don't seem to fight as much as when they're caught the normal way but that's still a good fish you have there.

Re: Silver off stave island

landing three 7-8 lb lakers all at once sounds thrilling. good job not getting all tangled - was there just 2 of you on the boat ?

Nice salmon too, congrats !

Re: Inshore Tuna NH!

great fish story, thanks for writing all that up.

Seems like the days when everything goes wrong at first are the ones with the best results at the end if you are persistent. Well done !

PB Salmon, mostly

This skinny silver specimen is the longest salmo salar I've caught to-date. At 26" and 5lbs 4 oz, it didn't break the personal weight record though. Caught this morning with the rainbow trout speedy shiner, 4 colors of lead on the inline planer board, over 160 FOW. It pulled line out hard from ...

Re: Can’t make this up

OMG ! Sorry that happened, although it makes for a great fish story. Nice healthy looking 7-lb laker there.

I have lost a couple nets to the depths in ways I never saw coming.

Re: PB Chrome

Thanks for the nice comments ! Really, trolling in a rowboat isn't as hard as it might seem. No need to figure out how to work or fix motors, downriggers, etc. for one thing. And maybe it spooks the fish less, being quiet. Its a good time for me to say thanks to everyone on LCU who's helped so much ...

...Then a rod shook and released. 100 ft back a salmon came a good 2 ft out of water. No 18 incher. Thought I lost it a couple times as it ran toward boat. 20 ft out it started the aerial show. Fishing solo so steering boat, grabbing net, trying to get this fish within net range.Of course it crosse...

PB Chrome

After a very unproductive LCI Derby with the waves making my daughter sick, I headed out solo in the rowboat early this morning. The lake was smooth as glass, the sky was clear, and there was just 1 other fisherman at the launch. Very quiet unlike a week ago. Surface temp was about 62 and I sent dow...

Re: Fishing community looses another Legend

Sad news indeed. I appreciate the time he took to share his wisdom here on LCU and talking over the phone, he was always very patient and generous with giving out knowledge that took many years to accumulate.

Thanks Jim, you will truly be missed !

Re: 9 hour LCI Dress Rehearsal

Saw you guys out there Saturday afternoon. I was in my new (yes another new boat) white and blue Sea Nymph. Just after we passed you off of Thompson’s Point we hooked up with a nice Steelhead. My girlfriend had her hands full with that fish jumping like crazy but she managed to get it to the net an...
