Re: Wilsboro Bay 11/16

Well, at least it wasn't just me. Sounds like the bite has often been first thing in the morning lately, it's just hard for me to get out there then. Good luck !

Wilsboro Bay 11/16

Spent a couple of hours trolling the bay today. No hits and nothing on the sonar except some bait in the 120-150 ft range (really!?) Saw a few other boats out there; if any of you are on here, I'd love to hear if you did better. I'm pretty new to this game. Is it normal for the bait to be so deep wi...

Re: Salmon fishing

As for tips, there's pretty much two ways people catch them: swinging a streamer, or drifting a nymph on a sink-tip. In the fall, you're only allowed one hook and no weight, so pretty much every other option is illegal, even though you'll often see people with spinning rods and weight. As is the cas...

Re: Salmon fishing

Agreed. It sounds like you're talking about river fishing. They can come up anywhere from late September to early November, but in my experience, you only see those early runs in years when the water stays up. More often than not, the good fishing (and by good, I mean you might catch a fish for ever...

Westport 9/28

Ok, I'm going to try to jumpstart the bass fishing reports here... Fished 4 or 5 hours today out of Westport. Didn't have a lot of luck to the south of the launch, but the north shore wasn't too bad. Had decent fishing off the rocks. A mix of some fish hanging near shore and more hanging off a bit, ...

Prop wash question

Hey all, I'm curious about the whole idea of putting a lure in your prop-wash. I can see why a salmon might be attracted to this area, but it seems like something that would only work in the Spring, when the fish are really shallow. However, I've read of people doing this in the heat of the summer. ...

Re: Remind me why I fished in Westport today?

Actually, I know why I went there. My wife wanted to go up along the palisades and it was a calm enough day to do that in my little boat. I saw a lot of those alewives yesterday around Bulwagga. Fishing was better there...

Remind me why I fished in Westport today?

The water's warmed up nicely and varies between 46 and 50 degrees. Still, I trolled for several hours today without so much as a bump on the lure.

Yeah, I got several hits today trolling 5 or 6 feet below the surface. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Re: bullwagga bay ?

Trolled around the bay this morning, for about 2 hours. Several bumps and two hookups. One got off, one boated (18" salmon). Thousands of alewives floating on the water and this salmon's stomach had eight 3 1/2" alewives in it. One strike on a spoon, about 5 feet down. Other strike on a Yo...

Westport report

I've been out in the bay around Westport several times over the past 2 weeks. Most recently today. Water temp varied from 40 degrees in the wind blown shallows, to 37 in other areas. I've yet to see or hook a fish yet this year, though I am seeing gulls feeding on alewives. I've mainly been trolling...
