St-Lawrence Oct 29 (Musky bonus)
Friday evening, I called WallyAndre and he invited me to join him and his fishing buddy Lucien for a walleye experience.
We left Montreal around 7am this morning, the temperature was below freezing point.
We picked up Lucien on our way to Lac St-Pierre, about one hour drive east of Montreal.
We dressed warm and hit the water around 9am, the lake was calm but it was still very chilly.... a good practice for the frost bite next week.
Within a few minutes starting jigging, André and Lucien tandem together to get 2 nice walleye in the boat.
This was my first time there. The scenary was spendid... and the fishing looked very promising. I counted 17 other boats in our neighborhood, but since it is such a huge area, we had plenty of room and it did not feel invasive.
It took me a few hit and miss before I got my first one in the boat, by that time my friends already had 3 each.... but you know the saying, "its not quantity, its quality we're after"....
By 11:15am, we reached our quota of 6 fish each, so we stopped for lunch.
Here are some pics we took during that morning session.
Lucien with a nice walleye
Me and my last walleye
and André with his "Monster Fish" of the day
After lunch, we got back to fishing.
The temperature has risen a little and it was much comfortable on the water.
We caught and released a few more eyes, so we decided to try another "hot" spot.
Jig... Jigg.... Jig... in about 15-18 fow, we got a few hits, but no real bitting..... until I felt something on my line. Since we were slowing drifting, first I thought I was stuck in the bottom, but then it started moving... "Great I have a big walleye" I said to myself FISH ON
Wrong!, it did not act like one. Then it started moving away from the boat, and unreelling the spool, and I could not stop it. We started the motor and closed up on that "thing" as we had no idea what was on the end of that fragile line
After a few minutes of slowly reeling the line in, I saw the shadow of the fish about 5 feet below the boat... and it was NOT a walleye..... it was TOO BIG.... then it started going away again.
I knew I had something nice on the other end of that line, but still did not have a clue as what type of fish it was.
After a few more minutes of adrenaline rush, I got it back again closer to the boat.... it was a nice Muskie. OUPS... the net is too small.. how are we going to get that fish in the boat
OK, some more adrenaline pumping.... we need to find a way to land that beauty
Lucien suggested to bring it to the side of the boat and he will catch it by the tail Easier said then done... after a few missed tries, the tail was too fatty to get a good grip, we need to find another alternative.
The only option is to catch him by the guills, so here Lucien tries again. After splashing us a few times
Lucien finally got it in the boat.... HOORRAY
We quickly took a picture before releasing it to grow some more. It measured 47", with an approx weight around 35-40 lbs.
We got back to fishing again, but it looked like the muskie had scared all the fish away, so we decided to call it quit and headed back to shore.
We had a beautiful day on the water.
For me, it turned out to be a WONDERFUL day. I caught 9 walleyes (more than I ever caught in my whole life before) and a Trophe muskie, as well as spending such an enjoyeable day with 2 great friends.
Thanks "Capitaine" WallyAndre for giving me the opportunity to discover Lac St-Pierre and for sharing your fishing knowledge.
Thanks Lucien for your presence, great humor, and genuine friendship.
I will cherish these memories for ever
NOW I AM READY FOR THE FROSTBITE... if weather permits.

Great report of a great trip. Love those walleyes you guys catch.
It looks like you snagged that Muskie between the eyes,,,he had no chance of biting you off. Great job fighting the fish and getting it in the boat!
I can imagine the rush!!!
