Matt:

If you get a few more alewives, try cutting them into 1 inch squares and try for bulheads

Wherever you find alewives, anything will hit them, from smelt to all fish ( given the right size chunks.) If you catch them and cut them up, where you catch them, and use them, where you catch them, there shouldn't be any transport conflict.

yes jim in my browns and salmon post you will notice i picked up a little one still half alive put it on under a bobber and landed a salmon. i prefer putting the whole alewife on in the area im fishing even if there 7 or 8 inches. i have to have the right wind to pick them up on shore though and sometimes cant get them. i would like to use chunks for catfish bowfins and others but im targeting salmon and browns now.

3/27/2019 hit a bigger stream today looking for some steelies. hit the water at 8 am and 21 degrees guides on my fenwick salmon/steelhead rod iceing up bad. headed back to the suv and grabbed a worm rod put on a weighted bobber and #4 snell hook with a whole crawler. tossed it out in center of stream and drifted it. at 9 am bobber stopped and started up stream really fast set the hook and noone home but no crawler either. decided then not to cast just keep on drifting. i was about to leave at 11:15 am when my bobber dissapeared and my rod bent over bouncing wildly and fish on. 1 jump 2 jumps 3 jumps and gone. ugh. a really nice steelie. went home to lunch with a big smile and a positive feeling. fished about 200 yards of the stream and did not see any fisherman. hope to get back down there tommorrow

3/28//2019 hit a big stream again got there at 7:15 am only to find a raging river so i was guessing they opened up the dam about a mile away.headed to dunkin donuts for a coffee and got back around 8:15 am with it slowing down. decided to try drifting 2 rods at the same time and just practice to see how i do. it was tough at ist with the faster water but about 9:30 am it slowed down and was a little easier. i didnt get any bobber down but got a vicious hit reeling in and noone home. next week i will be hitting more bigger streams and if i have room will practice more drifting 2 rods at the same time. :D :D

3/31/2019 hit a river this morning searching for steelhead and found a couple. went south and started fishing at 8 am with rain falling so i stuck to 1 rod because i was on a ledge. rain was coming down good but stayed and around 9 am my bobber started coming towards me a fast pace hurried and reeled in slack line and fish on i land a 15 inch steelie or so . then around 9;40 am another bobber heading down stream at a very fast pace to then the rod tip goes down and fish on. fought it for a couple of minutes and it shook loose . decided to leave after that but didnt make it to the end of the ledge as i slipped and fell on the ledge and one leg hit the water. i was really sore from yesterdays wind gust fall now this ugh. went home and will take a couple of days off.

Oh wow, that's exciting!
Sorry to hear about the fall.
I considered checking out some rivers and maybe heading over towards your territory, but I couldn't resist the call of the late ice crappies. I think I got my fill, though, and it's time to make the switch to open water. I hope to see you out there soon!

4/18/2019 scouted some rivers today in the rain and wind. found the water fast and a little stained. tried 4 spots with no hits with a rooster tail.

Fishing has been dreadful for me in the St Albans area. The ice made its way out only Tuesday. Weather has been nasty.
