Captain Midnight...

Headed out this morning over to the light house and hogback reef and colchester shouls marking alot of bait and fish. Running one rigger and diver had a couple releases on the rigger and then "WHAM'' there goes the slide diver with the good old "Captain Midnight" never got to see the fish, reeled the line in and it got the streamer bummer! Line did'nt snap you could feel that it rubbed over some teeth. Oh well maybe next time! "RANDY I NEED A NEW CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT!" Water temp was 58.4.

Awesome! I've lost a few fly's that way ... twice I actually saw the rod bend over and dance a second. Sometimes I wonder if it's the 18" leader to the dodger thats the problem? I'm also wary that snubbers have too much play to hook a fish. (But Randy uses sharp hooks ) But, WTG . Nothing like losing a SurpriseFly to make you want to put another in the water. They also seem to bee small mouth and perch magnets too. Thanks for the report!

That's some excitement. Gotta keep a few of those flies in reserve!

Plantstone - a 15lb test flouro leader to the dodger works well for me. Rarely a break-off.

I always run 20 lb leader between dodger and fly. Big fish snap short leas easily. Nice report Ken!

P.S. I caught a "Big" est 12-14 lb Pike on the Otter delta with a Midnight on a flyrod and only landed her because I hooked her under the chin .....quite the battle though ...yea.

I had a small snap clip no barrel with 8lb. about 12 to 15 inches. I will be upping the pound test to 12lb.
