Flashers and Dodgers or no

Post by rfern77 »

Just as the topic states, do you guys generally use them or no? I couldn’t find another thread on this and I’m not sure I’ve asked before.Been fishing Champlain for a few years now and I generally don’t use them as I’ve had moderate success without them but never a REAL GOOD day like some of you have from what I’ve read on here. Just wondering what the consensus says from the “Pros”. Thanks in advance guys!

I usually only fish champ once a year for the shootout,so I’m no expert, but we did experiment with dodgers and flies last year and had some success with lakers salmon and even took a few white fish on them, but didn’t seem to out produce good ole spoons.couple years ago we tried some of our flasher flies and even meat rigs from our Ontario stuff and I think we caught one laker in 3 days of fishing.

Dodgers and fly can work on lake Champlain. Sometimes better in fall and winter. There are some folks who run only dodger and fly and they do consistently get fish…

I have not had a much luck with dodger and fly in the last couple years. Not sure why.

If you try them I’d be interested in your results.

Thanks, Matt

Many years ago when I turned my focus from lakers to salmon I ditched all the traditional attractors (cow bells etc.) Like your typical fish head I went out and bought the latest and greatest salmon lures and even got talked into picking up a few top end teaser rigs by a smooth talking tackle salesman on Shelburne Rd that were supposed to simulate a school of smelt back when they were the prevalent bait fish in Champlain. Coolest thing I’d ever seen in the water ahead of my chosen spoon of the day and never caught a thing with them other than my rigger cable. I have caught salmon using a 4” dodger ahead of spoons but not enough to say if they out produce anything else, and on streamers on top in the spring in the prop wash. I personally have my best luck running a 2”-3” spoon clean and have not tried any attractors for salmon for well over 20 years and I too would be interested to hear if you or anyone else is having any luck with them lately.
Good luck!

E-chip flashers are always a part of my Fall/Winter program. Sometimes it scares some very experienced anglers that I fish with, but I think the E chip has a place! I use the smallest 4", and it has been reliable on Champlain during the Fall transition season.

The best advice I have ever heard was develop confidence in whatever works for you! It may not work for the next guy. :) We practice this in Ontario. Spoon program for us in May and July.... Flasher Fly's for stagers Labor day week down 100 ft.

I have a few 10 and 12” that I have tried on Ontario, they have a chip in them that is supposed to emit a sonic signal to attract fish. Never tried the small ones on Champlain and can’t really tell you if they even work on Ontario because I suck at catching Kings
I do plan on getting a few to try this winter because my lady won’t fish with me past October and she’s my good luck charm. I found some on Cabela’s site for $9, and will check Datillios this week to see if he has any.
