A gorgeous day on the water today. I started in Converse Bay and found favorable temperature down only 47' and was charting plenty of fish. In places the temperature at 50' was as low as 51 degrees. I trolled through Converse several times then switched to NY side trolling south of Split Rock. My results are curious given the favorable temperature, I boated 6 lake trout in 3 hours and that was it. Two of the lake trout were decent size and that is the odd thing I try to keep my speed between 2.3 and 2.6 to ward off Lake Trout and didn't run a spoon below 50'.
My experience with larger lake trout is they too often do not release well so I purchased a SeaQualizer and attached a photo of this device. This device allows you to release the fish at depth. I use the 50' setting and you simply close the jaws on the fish lower jaw and clip it to the downrigger ball. Then I slowly lower it stopping above 50' then I give the fish a minute or two then lower the ball to 60' so the jaws will open and release the fish.

Yes, the weather was amazing today! I found some fun off Garden Island, five medium to small lake trout all swimming freely... four salmon, three small ones, and one 18" for the grill... also lost a fatty 4-6# silver at the net...after it jumped over two other lines.. hahaha
