Fished Friday with DA and Jon Rundle out of Converse. Arrived at 1st light and motored across lake to the area we wanted to target. While setting out the 1st 2 color lead line out it fired! Good sign.. couldn't even get 2 spoons in the water without action...Surface was 41 deg and the sun was just peeking over the VT hills and the salmon were HUNGRY!
WE had the counter at 7 by about 7am and had seen o ly one laker so far. Mix od spoons and sticks were in action, sticks seemed to provide a little better bite. One of the lead lines fired and I fought a nice fish for a few min with high hopes... Only to find out it was a large small mouth that was
in the area and also wanted to play.
Around 9am we decided to pic and run to some new water. When we arrived we were happy to see 44deg water and NO BOATS... We hit fish in the area right off and they were lively. Many Many Lamprey on NY side, maybe 15?, NONE on VT side...
We started with breakfast dogs and later had NY strips steaks that cooked up perfectly. They brought up crew moral substantially. We had to drop DA off early at 1pm, but the bite was still active and the counter was only at 13, so we returned to the new hot spot and started picking away again.
At one point as we expanded the troll to the south west we fought a nice fish that turned out to be a 24' salmon who gave us a very nice battle.
On average the size of the salmon in the board lake today were better than what we have been seeing on the inland sea,
With this troll approaching a 12hr duration and the counter reaching a nice even 21 fish,we decided to head back to the launch to rest a little;)
Of the 21 fish only 1 bass, 3 lakers… rest were all salmon;)
Good to see WallyAndre' and Gecha Gerry at the launch... swapping fishing stories after a long day is always fun!

Nice seeing you and Jon at the launch Matt. It surely was a beautiful day on the water. We did not get as many hits as you did, but enjoyed the tight lines we had. Our menu was not that sophisticated, a few sandwiches and some sweet bites.

Nice work, Matt!
I passed you as you were bringing DA to the ramp.
Just had a few hours to spare so ran to Split Rock and started trolling. Landed 2 salmon and 3 Lakers on NY side. A couple fish came unglued before I got the rod out of the holder.
Stickbaits took both salmon and one laker. Spoons on 2 colors of lead also saw action.
Warmest I saw was 43.6 north of Cannon Pt.
Beautiful afternoon.

Looks like you had an excellent day Matt! We fished Keelers and Eagle Mtn Saturday from 7:15-10:30 and the bite was off by all accounts (or at least the 3 boats I talked to). Ended up going back to the launch and changing out my trailer bunks I had built and have been sitting in my garage since January, at least the trip was productive…..

Seemed like it was a long troll on Friday. I checked the navionics record... 41 miles and 10.5 hrs... for those who are looking for spring salmon trolling lines... here is my track;)
Back out Friday to chase em again!
