I was in Florida for a few weeks and an old friend invited me on the charter. His son and grandson were visiting from up here and he brought a fellow who works for him.
We were to go on. Tuesday we headed out for the full day charter. Got a call from Captain urging us to wait until Wednesday due to wind conditions. My friend was thinking go anyway, I convinced him to take Captain’s advice.
So we were met with a gorgeous day on . Caught sunrise on the Atlantic as we headed out 40 miles. Surprisingly, at least to me, water never got over a 100ft in depth.
We initially set up for trolling. Within a few minutes fish on. We let the kid take the first one. A nice bonito tuna. Turns out it was the only one. One mangled bait and nothing for an hour. So Captain said time to catch fish. Nothing happening here. Another 20 minute ride and baited up with pinfish dropped to bottom. Fish on immediate. Big amberjacks. Because of barracuda and sharks you have to bring them in ASAP. Not easy! 30-40 pound fish. We each caught a couple and had enough. Wasn’t that much fun. Guides had to help hold rods up. If you could have played them it would have been enjoyable. Anyway iff again for red snapper. A two hook rig with sinker and cut bait. Just like fishing perch in a 100 ft of water. Hit everytime. Guide’s advice- if you don’t have a bite in 30 seconds you list your bait. Grandson brought up a barracuda.
So Reelax, thanks for reading and asking for details. A pleasure.
