Posting here as this thread seems to get most of the action. I have not got my boat out of storage as of yet but certainly on my mind.......
I bought some Scotty's second hand. They work well except I have trouble with the cover locking down and popping up and that affects the depth counter. Is this an issue with older units ? Has someone found a solution to this ? One person mentioned duct taping the lock on the cover. Help !
John

There is a screw that holds the lock on, on the under side of the cover. Try tightening it, may solve your problems!

I have old school
Scotties and the covers like to blow
Open at highway speeds. I use the line retrieves and wrap them over the covers and lock them down with 2 half hitches. I’ll show you next time I see you at launch.
This has worked for 10 years for me…
I’ll be launching Wed, just not certain where yet:)
Fish on!

The screw works loose after a few miles. Probably due to the rigger being over 20 years old and the screw hole is worn some.

Put a larger one some blue stuff (can’t remember the name) so it will stay thight or you can also order some new cover

I had Canvas Covers made by Dennis Carmen VT Custom Canvas Georgia Shore Georgia VT both when I had Big Jons on my old Surprise and for Scotties.
They keep road grime off when trailering and ice off the gear in lake transit.
If interested I can take more pictures.

I also had the issue with one of my downrigger cover easily opening when moving. I will check the screw. Thanks for the info.
