It took me 30’days of hunting this year to fill the freezer. Started Nov 8th in NH and finished Dec 14th in VT. With freezer full with 2nd deer, decided to float the boat and see if any salmon wanted to play. Had the pleasure of Esad and Lightandvariable join me for a 7am launch from Converse.
Only 2 trailers at launch and one was a bass boat:)
Plan was to motor to NY and fish that side. once we got to Picket we changed plans and fished Garden to bakers dock to thompsons pt back to picket till 9am. The broad lake had 3-4 foot white caps from a north blow that was not in forecast. We setup a 6 rod spread with 2 slide divers, 2 riggers with cheaters and 2 long lines one with 2 color lead the other 5 colors. The port rigger fired with a small laker before we could finish the spread………..and so it began:). At one point Esad yells doubles and it happened to be a laker team n the mainline and a salmon on the cheater. Half way to a cold water grand slam with one release:)
We picked away at lakers looking to strike silver till about 9am and found only slime:( Decided to troll across the abyss to NY to look for active silver. As usual this move didn’t disappoint. Even though it was still 3 footers crossing it was worth it. We landed 2 salmon as soon as we arrived just south of the ball grabber… we fished active water up to split and back and the waves helped with action:)
Best colors and set were the riggers at 25. Best spoon is a custom perch painted gold flashing by Crazy Ivan…
We cooked up some husky ribeyes mid day to fill our stomached with something warm. Fished all day only seeing a bass boat and a glimpse of another roller. No other traffic on Saturday at all.
Water temps 46 and no thermocline at all…
Packed it up at 2pm and called it a day. We pushed rhe counter into double didgets by lunch but the afternoon didn’t produce the same rate of fire so we stalled short of 15 fish.
Thanks for the trip guys the fresh donuts were awsome and the ribeyes were to die for Esad!
Fish on!
