Saturday 5/6 in da fleet

Post by Reelax »

Wow trolling Saturday really brought out some boats. A few times this winter we fished whole days without seeing another boat. Today at 10:30am in front of Swifts we could see 22 other boats on the water in the southern half Thompsons bay all trolling…. Wow what a fleet.

Had Gerry down from Montreal and AveJoe aboard today for an international crew…

Spent the day chatting with Cowboy running as 1st Mate on the Cathy Jean. Good to see Thorny at the launch on day one of a 2 day charter… The boys from NH had big smiles today!

We got our 1st salmon by 610am while setting up the 6 rod set of riggers and slide divers. No boards today in traffic to make for easy maneuvers.

Silver and chartuse spoons worked best in morning and almost any spoon worked once the sun got up high in the sky.
DB smelts on the cheaters rulled the day again for us.

Had a period of bad results after breaking off 5 fish on cheaters found that my leader spool had been compromised with nicks in it causing the breakage.
Thank god that was resolved before derby season!

No need for long sets, fish hit 2 ft off the cable all the way to 50ft off the cable. Didn’t seem to matter:)

Menu today was coconut shrimp, baked stuffed scallops, lamb and goat cheese burgers as well as a couple other courses.

Water temps were just under 50 just about everywhere we went. And we covered lots of water. 22.6 miles and 9 hrs of trolling on the graph by the end of the trip today.

Sent Gecha from Montreal home with some good table fair and funny stories… so after pushing the counter to 18 we decided to end it around 3pm…

Epic day on the lake. Thanks guys.

Thanks Matt for another great day on the water. Never say NO to an invitation aboard Reelax.
Fun day with with incredible lunch fare. Could not eat everything offered, brought back home some as we ran out of time to cook.
Fishing was fantastic with lakers and salmons joining the festivities, brought back a few to saver in the coming weeks.
It was a beautiful day with great friends and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Nope, but Whippet cookies, Croissants, Montreal Bagels, Smoked Meat, and Coffee Crisp candy bars were.
Thanks Joe for the incredible food you brought and cooked for us. Fishing was a bonus.

As predicted Gerry the whippets were consumed upon delivery of the house. Great day and company on the lake!

Looks like a fun trip! Congrats, guys.

Voyager .... don't be expecting that kind of feast on my boat this Saturday! Can't quite compete with the delicacies served up aboard Reelax.

Well as Lightandvariable would say it’s a good idea to ensure you drop the kids off at the pool before you jump aboard:)
