Sat 15th in traffic
Fished with Travis and AveJoe Saturday. Started in water 10-20 deep with sticks and spoons 110+ back on otter boards and mixed in a couple 2 color lead rods in between.
Water was calm to start and built to a 1foot chop by 10am.
Sticks fired best on salmon in the morning and spoons worked better afternoon. Almost every salmon jumped and the seemed to be fighting better on VT side than NY. Water temps ranged from 38 in open water to 44 in the skinny to 52 in special spots with in flow. Best Bite was the 50’deg water:)
We got salmon working right at 1st light in our opening location. We had 0 boats around till 9 or so when boats started to troll or motor over. Once there were 5 boats in the area things shut down. But we already had the fish Travis wanted to fillet in the box:)
Best part of day is both Travis and Joe had excellent battles with good salmon. Joe fought one all the way to the back of the boat just to jump 2’ out of the water at the motor 3’ off the back and spit the spoon right back at him in the air:) that fish had him under control!
Good to see and talk to Realinvestment, Homewrecker and a few other forum boats on the lake. Fun times just beginning this summer!!
Menu was too long to finish. We only got to the coconut shrimp, bacon wrapped scallops, Philly cheese pockets, and finished with dry rubbed pork spare ribs. The hot dogs stayed in the box. We didn’t have time or the room:)
In the afternoon we did some scouting and covered some water…. Great to report we never saw a lake trout all day:) the typical salmon spring hot spots are not littered with slime yet:)
Can’t wait till the next run. I can smell a midweek excursion soon:)
Thanks for a great trip guys!!

Traffic sucks, but warm water pockets can draw a crowd. I'd hate to think that Reelax's known success draws a crowd, but that's possible too. Maybe it was the smell of the grillen's! Sorry I missed it. Low conversion rate though. Maybe need to replace your hooks?!! "Spoons fired best on salmon in the morning and spoons worked better afternoon." Sounds like spoons fired all day?!!

Major typo on my part scott… Sticks ruled the morning and spoons ruled the PM bite… most interesting thing to note:)
Fish on buddy.
(Up for a 2pm keelers run during the week?)

Re: Sat 15th in traffic
great report, and amazing action photo of the salmon spitting the lure !
My 11 yo daughter & I had our shakedown cruise yesterday in the same area (I think), she hauled in a big laker that took a CI Gold Melon, and that was our only bite of the day. The yo-zuri's and 1/6 oz speedy shiners that usually work best for us in April got a good washing. Beautiful warm day on the lake and great to be back out in the boat !

I do not exaggerate when I talk about fishing - I underestimate, like I say "just one more cast honey, then I'll come home" !

That was a really cool shot, Joe! Sorry about the end result, though. Sounds like your plan to avoid the traffic paid off, Matt. Congrats!!

Now that's Cool as it gets! Great photo, but probably not one of the favorites in the album! Great report. I am planning on dropping in @Colchester and feeling the grounds up to Grand Isle, maybe NY side as well?? If anyone is out that way this week, I'll be scanning on ch. 68 to exchange any Intel I have to offer.
Thanks again everyone for your reports! I have a good feeling about this season.
Be Safe.
Best,
Ej (TruViking)

What an awesome pic. Was that from a frame of video or do you just have perfect timing?

It was a zoom n in a pic that was taken during the fight. THe funny thing is you can see the liquid spit from the fish Mouth to the spoon in the pic. He actually
Spit the spoon out mid air and gave us all the finger as he re enter the lake:)
He won, we lost;)
Presious:)
