Key West 2023

Went down to Key West a couple weeks ago. Headed out into the big blue with Rough Shot charters. Was hoping to find some Mahi Mahi but after a strong week of winds prior to our arrival we just couldn’t find them. We decided to do some reef fishing. Amazing how blue and clear the water was. Could see the bottom in 58’ of water. He put us on the yellow tails which made some some fun fishing. Mixed in were some red grouper and a few weird looking fish and a few sharks. Wanting to still try for some bigger fish we went out to the 200’ water and got on the black fin tuna and bonitas. That made for some crazy battles. Amazing how hard they pull and how much they can bend your rod over. Was an amazing time with lots of fish caught and lost. Definitely worth the trip down. Next time I will try closer to spring as the charter captain said the Mahi have been biting later towards May and June now. Still no complaints from our trip. Lots of fun and smiles 😁

Gotta love Tuna of ANY kind! I got bit by the salt bug many years ago and I hit the high seas 3-5 times a year which isn’t bad all things considered. My longtime friend moved to Delray FL (Palm Beach) a few years back and I go down to fish with him for Wahoo, Sails, Tuna, you name it. Awesome times in awesome weather. Might make the move someday!
Pic is of one of the Wahoo we caught this past March
