2022 close out voyage on 12/31

Post by Reelax »

Each year I like to fish as close to the end of the year as possible to feel like I get the most out of my fishing licence. 2022 worked out with a great crew and condisitons on the Last day of the year…

We launched at 1st light from converse into some choppy waters. Motored to the NY side and set 4 riggers with fixed cheaters and 2 slide divers back 50 down 30-45.

Ran a small stick and dodger and spoon sets for periods but neither fired. Fish came from 20-35 feet down. Best bait was 120-150fow. We did catch multiple salmon on the abyss over 300fow+ down by diamond island later in the day.

Great to see Ramrod on the lake, asI have talked fishing at the car wash in Essex a few times. Snapped a distant pic of him in whalons while we were eating pork tenderloin.

Surface temps werearound 42 deg, and there is no thermo cline. Water was clean and no sign of fleas this trip.

Started a new tradition of playing this song while on the troll today… it got the crew in the mood and just sounds good on the lake blasted as loud as we can…

Menu was 3 courses deep, and took most of day to finish off, but we killed the days hunger before it ever showed up every few hrs:) switchback sausages followed by spice rubbed Venny closed out with a marinated bbq pork tenderloin finished with the juices intact;)

Every time we lit the grill the bite turned on as usuall.

Covered Whalons, converse, thompsons, down to diamond.
Seems Best bite was around diamon island later in day…

Thanks for another great trip Scott and Zeb, glad the 3’ swells calmed mid morning and made it easy to scout open water…

Fish on!

Awesome end to a good year! After a slow start, I'm glad we found them! The greatest irony was landing three silvers in quick succession after your wife told us to play fish FISH ON as Zeb picked away! It's odd pulling the boat on December 31 to ramp conditions that were more like October (except the dock is missing) so no sand or salt was needed even though we were the last to leave. Fish ON in 2023! Louder and bigger! Happy New Year All! See you on the water!
