LAKE MANAGEMENT TEAM ASKING FOR OUR HELP

Post by popster »

The Lake Champlain Management Cooperative is looking for us, LCU Forum Salmon and Trout Anglers, to help collect some basic data on your fishing trips, such as start time, end time, and species caught. This data will be used in the management of our Salmonid fisheries.

Recently, Jonah Withers, Fisheries Biologist from the USFW Service requested that we complete a simple 4-question Survey that he posted on the Forum, hoping for a return of 100. To date, there have been over 200 views with only 36 completed Surveys . We can do better and if we want to see our Salmon & Trout fishing improve, this is a way we can assist the Management Cooperative. If you would be willing to provide data, could you please complete the Survey and help them reach a goal of 100.

Thanks for the update Bill.
I've completed the survey and certainly hope others will also. It was a simple 4 question survey that literally took less than 1 minute to complete.

How does this work if I fish on someone else's boat, and we both report?

I "assume" the angler would file the report.
Or agree between those on the boat who reports.
????

A big thank you to all those who participated in the angler diary survey. As of today, we have received 114 responses!

Last week I met with the Lake Champlain Fish and Wildlife Management Cooperative to review the results and propose some next steps. The results demonstrated there is a strong interest within the angling community to pursue angler diaries and have helped us understand the volume of data we could expect to collect. In terms of next steps, we are now in the process of writing a proposal that will be reviewed by the Cooperative and we are beginning discussions around survey design and digital platform options.

I greatly appreciate this community's dedication and involvement with the Lake Champlain fisheries. I hope to have another update in the coming weeks once the Cooperative has reviewed the proposal.

In the meantime, happy fishing!
-Jonah
