Dorian is visiting Ocean City

Post by Gecha (Gerry) »

Cape Hatteras was hit hard earlier with heavy rain and strong winds.
Now Dorian's eye is east of Ocean City, luckily far enough offshore so it should not be catastrophic for us.
Since this morning, we have strong winds and the water level is rising.
The boardwalk is getting sanded a bit.

Surf is not as rough as anticipated by weathermen.

Water was still pretty high Saturday, but nice sunshine, temp in the 80's and no wind.
Got on the water around 6:30 pm fished until 11:30 under route 50 bridge.
Landed 4 stripers and a bluefish, missed many more.
Today getting the Longfin ready as we plan going offshore Monday for cobia.
Tuesday plan is to go crabbing. About 20 traps in the water now, we hope to get 5-6 dozens blue crabs in the steamer.

Sorry but no offshore fishing today for cobia. We need very calm sea for cobia, that won't happen today. Will have to wait for the perfect day to go out.
Fished under the route 50 bridge yesterday from 7 to 9 pm with my friend Lance.
We started fishing with finger mullets and got a flounder and a bluefish, then a bunch of dolphins showed up, probably chasing a school of big bunkers we saw at the surface, threw the cast net at them and got over a 5 gallon bucket full on the first try. Filled the livewell to use as live bait, the rest was heading to the freezer for crab bait tomorrow.
And the fun begin. Using the live bunkers, on every drift under the bridge we caught stripers. We ended up with over 20 caught, had 4 doubles. Kept only 1 that was badly hooked.
Now getting ready to go crabbing :D
Tonight menu: Striper filet and a few dozens blue crabs. ;)

The blue crabs were plentiful and DELICIOUS. Will have the striper filet another time.
Today is too windy to go cobia fishing.
Yesterday I spent a few hours enjoying good time on the pontoon fishing with sabiki rigs for bait fish. Caught a bunch of different sized spots, and also caught this unusual puffer fish.

Usually the ones we catch here don't have spikes.

Ended the day with another beautiful sunset.

Dorian is long gone, but now we have Melissa bringing us high winds and lots of water, not rain, but high water from offshore.
This morning the finger piers were all under water.

Even at low tide, the water level was higher than the normal high tide. This evening we are expecting even higher level. If it raise another 6 inch, I'll have a wet basement :(
And rain in the forecast for Sunday.

Gerry...I just came across this thread as I haven't been visiting LCU so much lately. You should keep this up...I find it very interesting as other probably do too...especially the blue crabs and success in the bay. Hope your basement stays high and dry!
Catch and serve with lemon.

We were lucky. Our basement stayed dry. Water is slowly receding.
Downtown Ocean City was flooded and they even closed access to route 50 bridge Friday evening and Saturday.

Incredible Mother Nature.

Last week the water was over my finger pier and a few inches from flooding the basement.

This morning, it is the lowest I ever saw, and it's not even low tide yet.
There's not enough water to get the boat off the lift. I can't go fishing :(
