August 2nd, 3rd Fishing

Post by rockntroll »

Was able to get to Lake O with my son again this year to try our luck. Fished for the first time with Captain Brent Perkins of BP Adventures http://bpadventures.com/ who charters in Lake Ontario, and Lake Champlain. First day met him at the dock just before daylight then headed out from Wright’s Landing in Oswego. Just before bearing left to get by the lighthouse Brent mentioned it was going to be bumpy. He was right. As soon as we cleared the breakwater we started hitting some ocean like rollers. The big boat handled the waves with ease as we headed out to our starting point. Despite the rough water once set up it was not long until the first hit. Releasing fish there to grow up that would have been keepers in Champlain is always fun though it's the big one’s that make the drag sing that we were looking for. Fortunately the waves backed down as the day progressed. Day two was much calmer, and the success rate reflected it. Both days Brent worked hard to put us on the fish, whether by swapping out gear as the conditions changed, or working different depths. Having doubles with the fish peeling line off screaming reels in concert definitely put smiles on our faces. The biggest of the trip was 27lbs on a Boga scale. It was good to talk with Brent both about Lake O fishing as well as Champlain. Hopefully we’ll be able to get back out there with him next year. Attached are a couple of pictures. Nice catch. Glad you had a boat to handle those waves.
