Salmon river fishing 9-20-12

Post by bigfish »

He fishing on in the Mexico bay area has slowed on the lake near shore. Offshore the fishing continues to be very good with next years crop of salmon n steelhead.
The big river after the recent rains and area tribs. Continues to be truly amazing . King salmon by the hundreds are entering the river everyday and the past 2 days the cohos have made a steady push up river. I have seen a few steelhead caught everyday, while the brown trout haven't made a showing as of yet.
Yesterday ( 9-19) south and north Sandies had salmon moving up river. Some of the smaller creeks had a few showing up as well.
Rain is forecast for Friday night into Saturday so fishing will continue to improve I expect. Even with the low base flow (185 cfs) the river is loaded.
The crowds have been light except for the weekends as expected, so if u can come mid week.
Ballpark ,81,paper mill, 2a have been very good, fish the faster runs for your best action. Mid day it slows a bit most days, Tuesday they moved pretty good in the overcast conditions all day .

Would like to go for the early salmon run over there. I hear when they're fresh over there they'll readily take a fly/spinner/plug?.. Will make due with a trip in Nov and Dec for steel and maybe some football browns!

The run continues to be steady. The area tribs are low and the salmon river is still running 185cfs. Everyday there is a steady push of fish moving up river. going out on a limb. I would say that due too the low water that has been the norm to this point in the season. It has made it easy pickings for the anglers and giving the fish less area in the river to move up river and extremely easy targets.
The steelhead are starting to show up good now that the salmon are dropping eggs and the river temp is coming down. the trout fishing is getting better everyday with some big fish being caught low in the river.
I've been on the river everyday for three weeks and its been pretty easy to have big numbers of hook ups everyday. Pretty much anyone can gettum now.
Not sure if i would say its the best year on the river but its a very easy year due too the conditions.

Just like out on the lake. If the conditions set up right it sure can make it easy picking and anyone can catch fish.
