Iphone apps for fishing

Post by Del Gue »

I have broken down and joined the 21st century :ugeek: . I have purchased an Iphone and was wondering what apps guys (and gals) where using out there to map the bottom of the lake. I have looked at Inavx and Navionics but was looking for some feedback on what are the best ones to have.
Thanks,
Dave

I have a chart plotter and I still use Navionics on my IPhone to mark spots I come across for ice fishing and such. Well worth the $9.99

Dave...
I started with navionics on my wife's old I phone and liked it so much I bought an iPad so I could have a 10" screen. Works great.

Thanks, I think I will try navionics. If that is the one you have Todd then I will like it very much.

Is the iPad using the GPS satellites or the G3/G4 network for positioning.
I heard rumors the Navionics maps don't work on iPads without G3/G4.
I doubt its true, can someone confirm it works?

Once you have the App no service is required.

I'm also researching this. Yes, you need the 3G or 4G iPad, as the GPS is integrated with that chipset in the iPad. However 3G or 4G data plan is not necessary. I'm fairly certain the wifi only iPad does not have the GPS chip.

Begs the question: 3G, 4G, wifi, chipset, dataplan... Aren't we fishing? Or are we becoming technology geeks on the water?

If your iPad does not have 3G/4G, then it does not have the GPS module.
However, there is a GPS module available.
Check "Dual Electronics XGPS150 Universal GPS Receiver" available for about $100
