Winooski Saturday

David and I launched from Winooski Saturday around 10.30am. We took the last available parking spot.
So many boats on the water, we had to be vigilant to stay clear of the planers and long lines.
headed North a bit and around Sunset Island, but no takers.
Around 1:30pm headed south to Shelburne Bay to meet with my DYP partner Fishhunteradventure (Mark) but he already left for Converse bay. So here we go, a 15 minute ride to Converse. Chat a bit with Mark at the ramp as he was getting ready to head south to a secret spot and wet lines with friends. We slowly headed back north, with 2 dr and 2 planer boards. Got a nice laker on the left planer, 100' behind, dragging a Purple/Blue Challenger. We replaced one of the dr with a 3 color lead line, wetting our "Dancing Girl (DG)" copper/purple lure with a matching fly that Surprise gratefully made for us at the last taping session.
Bang... within a few minutes, we got a hit.... another nice laker chewing the leg of the DG. Got a few more hits on the DG, and one on a Blue/white Challenger from the downrigger 15' down, 50 behind. We ended up with 8 hits, putting 5 in the box. Poor DG, she's more like a "Naked Girl" now, lost most of her clothing, and badly bent leg. She will need some major surgery.
Got back at the winooski ramp around 6:30 pm, still plenty of boats on the water.
It was a beautiful day on the water.....nice weather, such relaxing time with my son. Loved every minute.
No dr balls lost on this trip.

Well, alright. The season to be diligent about your whereabouts in relation to other boaters is here. That must mean fish fever is in the air. Sounds like another day of fish and family. thx for sharing

I put in a new radio a few weeks ago, but don't feel the reception is very good. I might have to get the antenna tuned.
I did not see a post from your outing. How did you do?

I am using the same antenna I had on the previous radio.
It looks about 36" long, all stainless steel, atop a swivel mount.
I would like to replace it with a longer 6' or 8' fiberglass antenna for better coverage.
I might also need to put a meter on it to check and adjust the cable length.

I was in my boat with Roger. I can't figure out why we didn't catch any. We are experience fisherman and fish the way you did. We only ended up with two long release if you know what i mean.

Ludo, you could have helped us out... :D

I Think we arrived too late cause we didn't see a lot of other boats catching fishs in the afternoon.

I was out amongst the crowd out there, too. We only landed 1, with boats all around us picking them up. We ended up pulling our lines after a few hours and hit Shelburne Bay for the afternoon and picked up a couple down there away from the crowd.

Kept them for the smoker (just vacuum sealed them tonight). One of the lakers had a real yellow flesh color to it, much different than the others. Different strain, maybe? Anyone have any thoughts on that?

We caught a nice with a darker brown skin. We know its a laker because of its big mouth (but no dentures like Ludo mystery fish) but the skin was a lot different from the usual ones. Maybe a hybrid?. Anyway, it tasted good in the oven.
