10/6/2015 brook trout pond

Post by fishy1 »

hit a trout pond today a little closer to my vehicle .6 miles and the bite was on fire. set my poles in at 6:30 am and landed 17 nice brookies by 10 am. had to keep 5 badly hooked brookies my limit otherwise would have caught more. out of the 17 only 2 were under 10 inches and they were 15 females and 2 males. il post a pic of the 5 i had to keep. released 2 that were 13 plus inches. all decent brookies and plan on hitting the pond in the morning again.

I'm thinking those are brown trout. Sometimes they look very similar. The distinguishing marks are the red spots with blue halos on brookies. Perhaps those marks are not very visible in the photo.

those are pre spawn brookies not even close to brown trout colors this time of the year. those were 4 females and 1 male the skinny one with the red fins. there are no brown trout in that pond only brook trout. i took these pics at home 4 hours later so they had faded some. they were caught in a pond with clear dark water. i landed 11 more today about 50 yards from where i got those in the pic. but soon as the sun hit the pond around 10 am they shut down. released all 11 . they were smaller today also 7 to 11 inches.

its about time i hit some with a little luck after walking 24 miles the following week for 1 19 inch rainbow and 3 brookies. its cooling down back in the mtns so i should stay on them until oct 15th when season closes. been scoping out the ponds for you so you can come over and toss that fly pole out from shore and join me.so far maybe 2 one is 2.5 miles back and the other is .6miles back and limited shore access.

hit a pond today 2.4 miles back and landed 14 nice brookies all 14 decent size from 11 to 14 inches. kept 5 badly hooked ones and i will post a pic. fished in the deepest part of the pond from shore. well worth the 4.8 mile round trip walk. the water temperature on the pond was 55 degrees thats why i decided to fish the deepest part 27 feet. 2 fisherman in a canoe gave me the details on the water temperature and it really helped me. i thanked them and they said they landed a 19 inch female brookie saturday and released it.
