Sand bar: Land acquisition by Vermont F&W
The Department acquired a 3.1 acre field in South Hero that will serve as the parking lot for an
access area on Lake Champlain. A second parcel in this project should be acquired early in
2012, which contains an existing boat ramp. Together the two properties will provide much
anticipated year-round protected, deep water access to the Inland Sea of Lake Champlain.

Awesome news!! I hope that they design a launch facility that addresses the relevant concerns of the local residents. This should be a great enhancement to the area.

A concrete ramp! No more looking at trailer with one fender out of the water and the other submerged on the deep launch side.
Great news!

That is great news! I had fished the LCI derby for 6 or 7 years out of the campground and kept my boat in the marina while we were there... the last couple of years I fished out of there a lady would be at the launch well before daylight and stay all day to make sure no one used the launch or parked in the field...CRAZY! one day she was going to call the cops because I was parked to the right of the launch...to get out of the way... while I put my gear away for the ride home! I stopped going there because the H2O was not deep enough @ the marinas side of the launch to load/unload my boat. Now I will be back! And I will bring coffee when I stop!

The last time I talked to the Commish he said it was going to happen. I believe they will address most of the concerns of the locals by diverting Featherbed Lane around the parking lot and ramp. Makes a safer entry to Rt. 2 for them and they don't have to drive through the launch area to get to their places. For the folks that just don't want anyone on "their" lake, not much can be done for them anyway. I don't know the time frame, but the sooner the better for the fishermen.

That launch will become a favorite for a lot more people including myself. It's perfect for wind protection and the fishing is great just out of port. My 90 2 stroke likes her gas, so being close is a good thing. I'm glad to see our license money going to a worthy cause.
