Smelt

Post by Fishinpole »

Does anyone know why smelt stay so deep say 120-150 ft when water temp at 75-80 ft is the same. Have seen this a lot with bait that deep and with fish probably Lakers with them. It is 48 deg at 130 and 48 at 90 ft but no fish or bait. Could it be the oxygen level?

It could be oxygen levels, but I think the smelt are following the shrimp which I think are reacting to light levels.
