Gorilla pollyurethane. The old transom , the top two pieces were never even attached to the lower , main, section. They slide in from the splash well area, under the gunwales.

Re: Transom replacement.
A big day today, I put the motor back on. While I haven't been working on it steady, all that's left are transducers and hook things to the motor. This was a long, involved project, and now without really bragging, I truly believe that I can fix anything. Probably around 60 hours of work, and I've been a carpenter for 45 years. Also I have done most of my own mechanical work since I was old enough to drive. In other words, this is not a job for someone without skills or patience. Many delays, fuel pump on the truck, working out of town, and did I say rain? Oh my God. Even snow.
.All in all, well worth it. What kind of price can be put on peace of mind?

Now you've got a new Islander! Which is cool because they don't make them anymore.

Thanks Jack, and Bryan and everyone else. This is the kind of job that goes much better with a pat on the back, and where else would I get that? Fired the motor tonight so I guess that I got the wires rght, big plus! Transducers tomorrow, then the normal cleaning, maintanince, and I'm ready to go. Somebody needs to tell me where.JTM203SOUTH wrote:Really nice job, Jeff ! I'm sure you will enjoy the boat even more now.

If it keeps raining, you won't have to go to the fish, they'll come to you.

Re: Transom replacement.
I'm ready to go,. Because I haven't heard much about salmon, and the weather being so crappy, I didn't rush to finnish up until today. I put the transducers on by countersinking some brass screws through a piece of pvc. Then glued and screwed that to the transom with minimal penetration. I've been using a polyurethane construction adhesive on everything, and I like the fact it will do metals.
