When the Wolverine comes to stay at the house from Vernon for 2 days for the DYP, what do you do on Sunday after the big win?!?!!
Go fishing a mixed back of heavy pullin action!
We hit mallets bay at 1st light and hung a plethora of deep diving plugs, spoons, broken back divers, and the kitchen sink at the water Column to see what wanted to play. OMG what fun. The only thing we didn’t boat was a walleye and a salmon.
I’ll let the pics tell the story of the heavy pullin, slimy action we had today. Notable was catching double lakers and pike from the same spot twice but just swapping species with the wolverine…
Small mouth topped out at 21” , lakers topped out at 31” and Pike topped out at 32”!
We got perch, large mouth, small mouth, and Pike today from the warm water division, and lakers from the cold water category. Almost all were notable fish. Since when do we have pods of big lakers patrolling the Outter bay! A year ago it was rare to catch one in there at all. They are all over this time of year. The shear biomass of the lakers in the lake now must be in the thousands of tons!
Maybe I gotta get off the salmon troll more.
That was damn fun!

You know it! That’s my playground and it’s lovely until mid June. The lakers are replaced by blowboats as both use the cut as a highway! You shoulda stopped in, I didn’t notice you out front or I woulda steered you towards an eye! Looks like a great day. I think you just convinced me to go do the same!

Great to see you out there, Matt, must say I was surprised to see you as we were coming out of the inner bay!
Me and my buddy Dave got out at the crack of noon and trolled 2 1/2 hours. Caught a monster Laker and two keeper salmon, not bad! Larger salmon hit cheater around 14’ and other salmon and laker hit 3 colors leadcore off the planar. Still no hits off a downrigger ball so far this spring. 40-70 FOW. Happy that I am finding salmon even if the keepers are all around 16-17”.

I was surprised to see the Reelax in the Outer Bay too!
We launched about 9:30 and passed you near Marble Island.
We trolled the Outer Bay for an hour focusing on some depth contours. No dice so pulled the lines, went through the cut, and headed towards the Winooski.
Laker bite was strong until about 1 PM. Picked up again about 2:30.
Lost count but landed in excess of a dozen. Size ranged from shakers to 30+ inches.
Spoons on 2 and 3 colors of lead were busy.
Diving stick baits saw action too.
Gorgeous day.

Great reports to read in this thread, thanks for that guys. My son and I fished the IS on Thursday with nothing to write home about. We were both glad to get on the water. With him at UVM the last few years, we just aren't getting out as much. Water was still 54-56deg on the surface when we left around 4pm. Surprised to see how much it's gone up by in just a few days.
Reelax - That was one heck of an aggressive perch. He was definitely ambitious! ...and reached his goal. lol

I see a lot of happy anglers in the pics. You all had a fun day on the water. Hope it continues as the water temp is raising.

Great read Matt,
That looked like a great day for sure. I will second about the Lakers I don't care for catching slim d arts but lately its been fun with the kids. This pass Sunday we put 10 Lakers ,1 salmon, lost 4 other fish in a little over 4hrs of trolling. All on spoons from riggers, mini dipsy, to inline board all took fish. Everything returned to bite another day the salmon was 19".

Re: Outter bay warm water cold water mixed bag
I checked fishville Sunday not much on graph, marked alot of bait down about 80-90ft over 140-160 running north to south parallel with barber PT but towards fishvillle end Coles bay. We are headed back out out one day this weekend to scout some more for the rotary. If my boat was smaller I would be out more since the doctor still Jas me out of work till June 11th as of now maybe loner once I go back an see her time will tell.
