New high water mark for Salmon on Reelax
Well the buck hunt has been slow for me this year. I have seen many deer and had great hunts, head gear has just been sparse. After seeing my 1st buck on Friday and it being a spike horn I decided it was time for a change in action.
We launched from Arnold’s bay at 630am and had the 1st fish by 7. We motored south and setup in an area on my graph littered with marks from past trips. Dave (WDNR) and Jeff (Lightandvariable) jumped on to work the gear and grill in the southerly chop.
We set 4 riggers with fixed cheaters in 48 deg water that stayed consistent to 100fow+. We started with a laker and then never saw another till about 9 am!! By 8am we were I double digit salmon and had 20 by 9 and 32 by 10am… it was a flurry of action ALL day. Doubles on one rod, triples all landed multiple times. Jeff landed a nice fat 22” followed by a 21” very early and they went into the box quickly.
Seemed any spoon with a hook worked and we didn’t change out much as it didn’t need it. Sausage gravy milkshake , blue moon, phantom, army truck, mottled green mpg, purple people eater all fired like machine guns;)
We mainly worked the 90 to 120 foot contour but think the fish were active just about anywhere.
We had hot dogs and some rubbed venison backstrap for lunch #1 and #2 and kept on reeling fish in. The bite stayed strong all day. By 1:30pm we were talking about the end, but we wanted to break 40 salmon and 50 fish total. By 145 we landed our 50th fish and started to pick the set. Each time we poped a rigger we either had one on or had a hit at the release. They were still HOT at 2pm! We did 3 more
Fish on the pick up to close the trip at 53 on the counter. The best part is that there were 41 salmon brought to the boat, with only a dozen lakers in the mix!!
We kept 3 more due to gill damage. After filleting them on the lake we found a few alewives in them but not much…
This was a day we will never forget. I have had this boat for 7 years and almost 2000hrs Of trolling. Never have we had the non stop fun and games we did on
Saturday. I am making plans to return asap as soon as my
Left arm cramps die down;)

Wow you guys crushed it! Do you send riggers right down to those 90'+ marks, or do you catch them higher?
Ok now I have to get back out there. I think I have room for improvement from my five cute little salmon.
Good to see you out there, too. I'm never quite confident which boat I'm looking at, but I thought it was you.

What a great day ! Thats a ton of fish, nice to see some salmon over 20 inches in the mix. Congrats on new record number of salmon !
I do not exaggerate when I talk about fishing - I underestimate, like I say "just one more cast honey, then I'll come home" !
Keep Calm and... Fish On !

Looks like another crazy fun fishing day on Reelax.
Always great to read your reports.
Reminds me we had a similar experience a few years back on Reelax during the bird tornados.

We hardly ever find success chasing the top f bait down to 90fow. Typically we run 20-40 above and the fish will rise to strike, you can see em on graphs as they rise…troutcrazy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 27, 2022 7:37 am Wow you guys crushed it! Not saying we don’t run a rigger at 100 fow and get salmon down there cause we do when things get slow.// but those are the exceptions not the strike pattern we target…
Hope this helps…

Seen several post now with great fishing an wishing my boat wasn't put up for the winter. Thinking it's time to finish the 19 ft Grumman for next fall. Big boat is just to much when fishing alone due to launching an retrieving with no dock. Glad to see your numbers reelax that would put a smile on anyone's face. Tight lines to all, see you all in the spring in the bay.

It helps a lot, thanks! It seems strange to be marking so much happening down at 90' and lower, and to be fishing around 25'. Of course, It's hard for me to get much deeper. But I might spend more energy trying to get deep if I didn't know people were catching them up high. I don't think I marked a single fish above 50'.Reelax wrote: ↑Mon Nov 28, 2022 10:35 pm We hardly ever find success chasing the top f bait down to 90fow. What a great day out there for you guys! We've caught a bunch of salmon every trip out this fall, but they've all been 16-18 inches or less. It's really good to see those big ones in the boat.
Nice job crew, keep up the good work.

Now, that's Fishin'!
Awesome post.
I've come to expect great posts from the Reelax crew, but this??!! Definitely not like this.
Extremely envious!
