Converse Sunday- let’s fry up some pig….

Post by Reelax »

Fished out of Converse Sunday with Tunamas and Riverrat. Conditions were good with light south wind and surface temps around 54deg. We motored south a bit and setup over 60ft and started the search for bait. Wasn’t long till the 1st salmon picked a spoon and ran with it. I got 1st rod and proceeded to drop the 1st salmon of the day on the 1st jump. What a start. Good news was I knew he was silver cause he spit the hook high enough in the air I could see his whole body and color… Our 1st 3 releases were all
Silver which pointed to a better day…

Water was flat and by 10 we had a nice 8” chop on the main lake for the action. We ran 4 riggers with cheaters and mixed in slide divers, long line lead and some
Clip weights into the spread to round out the 6 rod set at .. While all the riggers fired we noticed the 2 color lead sets got the most action and the slide drivers were silent. By about 10am it became apparent that every salmon we had landed had come from 15 feet and up and a
Every laker we had landed was deeper than 20. This helped us dial in the silver bite a little more. As a result we probably boated as many salmon as slimmers Sunday which was kinda nice…

There were blow boats out by 9am, dodging them sitting still or barely moving in the slack wind made the trolling interesting… we trolled by Pointer and crew a couple times hailing the lucky crew in that comphy boat and finding they were also picking away at the silver also… Pat, and Paul working the dance floor and Popster at the helm just looks natural on that boat…

Sometime after noon we had an Ariel show begin about 160ft long lined back on the starboard side…. Andy jumped on it and sure enough he struck chrome with a small steelie. That little bugger did his species proud jumping motile time was Andy brought in his 1st lake Champlain steelie…. Rare this year, it made us start looking for the grand slam that we could now round out with brownie…

Just to make it interesting we had a guy and his wife troll straight Into us in front of Thompsons, he was reading his phone and not looking up with his wife sitting in front looking back. They came within 10 yards shy of us as they trolled straight into our port and finally woke up as we yelled to let him know we were there. As he reacted he took our outside 2 color lead home with him… Riverrat loved that one!! If we had not yelled he would have hit us somewhere mid ship at 2.4 mph! Combat fishin at its finest:)

Menu today was a Chinese marinated sweet and sour pork rib, followed with a heavy rack of Bbq ribs that you could probably smell in Essex NY, they were SO good. There is a common saying we hear on board…. “There will be NO weight lost aboard Reelax” we all left stuffed today.;)

The counter got a workout and ended up at 20 by 2:30pm. With 6 fish in the box we figured it was time to head to the barn.

Thanks for jumping in guys. Your a crew that runs the boat without help and that makes for an easy day for me;) Proven by the flat trailer tire patch job at the launch at the end of the day!

Fish on!!!

It was a HOT day and I was glad Andy could join us to reprise most of our 2021 Rotary Team. Makes the deck work EASY!! I'm glad that we finally struck silver and began to pattern them. Also a couple of BIG lakers (they look like donkeys in the tank next to "one-eye"!) and the steelhead was crazy! The Tica's had a workout yesterday. Thanks again!!

Hey, great report Matt. It would be funny if that laker got sick of that little runt bumping into him, and he just swallowed it. I would have If I were him.

Liam and I made it out on Strike Three yesterday, for some blind shot in the dark fishing, and to try out our cold water fishing program on that boat. Basically just dipseys and snap weights. No fish off of that. We messed around in the rivers and bays a bit, but nothing much to speak of was boated.

How about those recreators at the "Fish and game" accesses yesterday huh? I don't know about you, but, I didn't see many fishing poles on those little sailboats and kayaks... At one point in Lewis Creek we had 9 kayaks, an aluminum boat, and 2 jetskis in there. That river is about 30 feet wide. But, in general people were doing their best to keep moving.

Great report, Matt! Thanks for sharing.

We took the pretty boat out Sunday and hit the water at the crack of 10:30. Ran down to Otter Creek and trolled to Basin Harbor with nothing to show.

Crossed over to the NY side and hit two nice Lakers before we reached Snake Den. CI Gold Digger and a CI Bloodshot at 50 and 30 respectively.

Lots of activity around Thompson's but wanted to avoid crowds. Boat ramp antics were enough entertainment...

Quick trip. On the trailer before 2.
