Good spring washing

Post by Reelax »

We decided to run south yesterday to see if those waters were active yet. Had Lightandvariable and dreamcatcher meet early to ensure we were 1st on the water. Well I over did it, we sat in dark after everything was all setup for 20min with little to do before Ben finally pulled in to give Jeff someone to talk to. The northern fleet would be 1st out in these southern waters…

We motored over to the target zone and setup 2 riggers down 15 with fixed cheater back 3. Put out 2 longlines back 120 with split shots and a mix of small sticks and spoons on each otter board for our 6 rod spread.

Water was coffee colored and there was lots of
Floating riprap to dodge. Hookes stayed clean in some areas and got foweled in others. Temps were 43-46 all day. Warmest was on the inflow

Around 7 it started to sprinkle, around 8 it started to rain, not long after we were fishing in visual
Soup… the 6 boat fleet thinned to 3 within an hr and it was just Ben, and a big Eastern named HellONREELS working the water.

We did find salmon, not the size or number we were looking for… But after 25hrs of trolling the COLD water this spring we finally struck silver…

Not sure where but I’ll be back out Friday now that it’s not all slime any more.

Todays menu started with bacon wrapped scallops done by Kenny to perfection. Followed by hot dogs with toasted buns by Jeff. Then to finish off the day after Jeff’s nap:)
We bbqed a marinated pork tenerdoin rubbed with old bay seasoning on low after searing in the juices. This was the best pork loin to date on Reelax and will be a return menu item after that feast!

Sausgae gravy Mike shake was best set today 120 back on boards.

Most interesting thing today was a snake that hitched a ride on an otter board in the middle of the lake. He musta been hooked to one of the MANY tree branches we hit with that board. Who know how long he was riding……One thing for sure he was just NOT interested in swimming the mile back to nearest shore. He swam back to boat after we let him go in open water so we gave him a ride back to the launch. He would have been Eagle or fish bait before making shore so It was a good move for him;)

Something interesting always happens in the lake. Sometimes it is big salmon, but today it was Albert the snake.

Thanks for the great day and all the laughs guys.

Fish on.

Great photos, I love the ones of the snake on the otter board ! Not something you see every day !!

Kudos to you & your crew for toughing it out in the pouring rain and finding silver !

I am hoping to get the boat on the lake soon, maybe next weekend...
