Saturday Salmon Special Session, south....
Sometimes you just hit the right place at the right time... yesterday was one of those days for Reelax... we launched at 530am with Tunamas and Dave Fondry aboard to search for Salmon and try to stay away from lakers
The water temp, was 70 on surface and we found 55 around 50-60 depending on How far south we were... The chop was perfect at 6” and the boat traffic was manageable with only 2-4 boats in area working the silvers...
We ran a deep water spread of 4 down riggers with cheaters tight to the release with bling on the inside riggers and 30 lb mono setups to deal with fleas. We rounded that out with 2 slide divers, back 50ft and down 35-55ft. The riggers hit best today at 60fow over 150. The bait was amazing and in some cases ran right to the surface. The drizzle helped keep our bite active all day and when we picked at 2 we were still landing pig salmon over 5 lbs almost every release!!!
After being too busy to fish post LCI, this trip was exactly what we needed to get back in the game... seems every time we looked up a rod was firing.. all day!!
We did more salmon than Lakers and for a period mid day it was JUST salmon. NO brown or Steele caught today but that was OK Think 14 of the 22 were salmon!
Menu consisted of cheese burgers and hot dogs, but the dogs never made it on the grill due to so much action
Hot spoons included Crazy Ivan reverse buzzy and sausage gravy milkshake, Honey Bee Purple people eater, and pink bobo MP6, .... which tells us that just about anything was gonna work
The weed rafts were the worse, we found if we hugged the shoreline at the bottom of the drop we could stay inside most of the weeds. Flees on the riggers were fine, but on the 50lb braided slide diver sets, there were Nasty..
All in all we end with the counter at 22 fish, had 3 sets of doubles in same rod, and landed 10 salmon over 5 lbs and 4 over 6!! The salmon jumped like crickets today and my biggest jumped 9 times before we could slide the net under him on the last attempt.
Every angler got multiple salmon over 5lbs to scratch the itch fully today..
It is days like this that keep me coming back and dreaming of pig after pig.. at 130pm a rod fires and we all looked at each other to say, it’s you turn... jump on em... at the, point where everyone seemed to want to let the next guy battle the next fish, we figured maybe we had enough.... in between rain storms,we picked and ran to the barn... what a great day it was!!
Thanks guys...
We started with the 1st silver by 6am.

Great day for sure. Hooking up my new to me fish hawk X4 that crazy Ivan hooked me up with today. Then hoping to hit the water tomorrow morning and see what it has in-store for me. It will be first trip in new to me boat. Great report

EPIC Day! Good crew, good food, good conditions and an awesome bite! I haven't seen bait clouds like that and a salmon bite so consistent with big fish in a LONG time! We found them! The only "downsides" to the day were having my 2d cheeseburger interrupted with another thumping rod and passing that fatal accident prior to launch. Thanks for the ride.

loved the report and photos, what an extraordinary day of trolling for landlocks ! hope there will be more like that !!
I do not exaggerate when I talk about fishing - I underestimate, like I say "just one more cast honey, then I'll come home" !
Keep Calm and... Fish On !

Here is a link to a YouTube video of one of the 3 sets of doubles on the same rod we landed..
One of them was a salmon and laker pair.

awsome day matt and love all the pics. those are nice healthy salmon. waiting for your next post.
Re: Saturday Salmon Special session south....
Some of them are there now! We lost a slug on its third jump when the fleas mucked up the spectra on the slide diver rod and we couldn't clear it fast enough. I thought this was the year of fewer but bigger fish, but fingers crossed that next year's pigs will be even better. ... and we caught two shakers, so at least there are a few youth still in the system.Crazy Ivan wrote: ↑Sun Jul 18, 2021 10:55 am Great report Matt.
