Re: New to the area

Malletts - yes, you'd need to break out of the cut in the causeway to get on the main lake. Once in a while you can catch lakers in Outer Malletts but don't count on it. Just beyond can be good for lakers. But you will want to go south for salmon action. You can also go through the Sandbar from Mall...

Re: Fun Salmon Facts

They put them in the Lamoille, they end up in Bulwagga...pretty depressing for those who live up north. :-) Thanks for the cool info.

Re: Smallmouth Party

Nice report. I've run into a few big smallmouth myself lately. It does seem early but I guess it's warm in the shallows. I went for my first swim last weekend after sweating out some yard cleanup and it wasn't awful! If we're sharing bass tips.. this time of year, my best presentation is a very big ...

Re: Frostbite shore fishing

Matt, do you tie those Krocs on directly, or with a swivel? Do you use the split ring? I thought you said once you tie direct to the spoon but I can't remember. Also, ever try a trailer hook to help with short strikes/ misses? Like this: https://www.chasintailtv.com/articles/diy-angler/335-make-your...

Fishing in a Hole 2021

Been way too long since I checked in on LCU. Been cheating on you all with IceShanty.com. My best trip was the very first of the season, in early January way up north. I even got the girlfriend out for her first ice fishing ever! Spent the whole morning chasing flags, plenty of pike and some big per...

Re: Interesting story from Maine....

Pretty sick. Maine has been trying to reduce the population of laketrout in that lake for years. I'm not sure how else they could do it? In NH some towns are having rock bass tournaments to rid their lakes of unwanted fish. The only difference is those towns are throwing the cull into the trash. Whi...

Re: On the Board for 2021

Nice! Sadly I think Malletts will open back up with another warm spell moving in this week. Outer Bay skimmed over Sunday, today was back to open water in the middle. Maybe February....
I did get out myself finally wayyyy up North on Saturday.

Tough Conditions - Maybe This Weekend

Just here to pour my heart out about what crap ice we've had this year. I mean, the one year when an early ice season would have been sweet we get one of the latest starts ever instead. Sucks...my usual home base around Malletts has zero ice. Not bad ice or thin ice... straight up 100% open water. T...

Re: Looking for for safe Ice

Hi Mike, Champlain won't be frozen until January., most likely. Looks like it will be cold this week though so it may start to ice up in spots. Usually the first places to freeze are ponds in the northeast part of the state...bit of a drive. Might be some ice already but doubt it's safe if it exists...

Re: Salmon fishery

trolling in Outer Malletts Bay Don't bother with the Outer Bay please, there aren't any fish here of any kind :D Seriously though, this is an important and interesting discussion, even if I am not the biggest salmon fisherman (hope to be some day). The question is, what will we do about it? We can ...

Re: shore fishing for lakers

Just the two 12 inch yellows for perch. When they get that size sometimes they think they've become bass and they roam the shallows. I have been catching yellows and whites at the drop-off near me, about 35' deep, when it's not too windy to make it miserable out there lately. They are stacked up, es...
