Re: Lewis Creek Steelhead

Thank you for sharing your interesting thoughts and experience. It certainly makes sense that a "5-6 mos drop back season" in the lake won't provide enough growth to see bigger fish in the system if they are not feeding heavily while in the rivers. You mention Chambers Creek and Memphremag...

Re: Lewis Creek Steelhead

Estaz stone! Nice fly (and fall color.) Great fish! Fishfarmer, given your background can I ask a question?: This fish has a big head suggesting maturity, but why aren't we seeing lake run trout that are longer and heavier? Too few to sample? Not enough forage? Or are these fish spending more time i...

Re: Frostbite Shootout 2023 Results

Congrats FATHEAD. Sorry I couldn't make it. But if I was a betting man, Reggie and Jeremy are tough to beat! The Swenor goes to a good home ... at least for a year! There are many that I missed by not attending... I hope we stay in touch! I ended the night last night in Middlebury which started with...

Re: Ugh!

It's always been my rule to let the Captain tell the story. However, you are usually so prompt with reports, and the conditions were so harsh, I thought you'd let this one go. Thus, I provided a report but I didn't identify boat or crew. Please tell T the poppers were awesome (even the one with seed...

Ugh!

Sometimes we are the windshield and sometimes we are the bug. Yesterday we were the bug. It was deceptively windy at the Converse launch at 6 am. Tree tops were blowing, but in the lot it wasn't bad. We launched just to stick our nose out and it was UGLY (and the forecast was building winds starting...

Re: Darn metric system

I don't know for sure, nice bass, but I doubt it was 5lbs. Photo perspectives are weird, and we'll never know. I hate raining on parades ... but a 5 lb smallie would carry more mass!

Re: Vermont Field Sports Closing Sale

I'm sorry to learn this. VFS has always been good to me even back in the college days! I liked the rebuild after the fire in 2007. They have always been well stocked and helpful. Maybe time for one more run this weekend to see what inventory they have remaining.

Re: Replay of last week in the inland sea

A few further notes: (1) That picture of the seagull on the floater wasn't our doing. We didn't get close enough to see if it was a walleye, a carp or a smallmouth, but the one tough salmon release that we had we circled back when it floated, recaptured and rehabilitated it, and then made a second h...

Re: Alaska trip

RAZ - Awesome pictures and a great experience. Reelax - I've fished Alaska on several expedition kayak trips and from a few fly in private lodges. Aleutians, Prince William Sound, Katmai, and down to Juneau. It is EPIC however you do it. Almost 20 years ago, we took our kids for a family trip to Sit...

Re: River reports...

We've had a lot of rain, and cooler temps. Rivers right now are near perfect. Nymphs? Yes! Dries? Yes! Hopper dropper? Yes! Streamers? Tight to cover but absolutely, and bigger fish. This is early June on Steroids!

Re: Back in the saddle on the sea

Dean taped some pretty good spoons. Again today 2 of his spoons fired well and were in the top 3 spoons of the day. Fish on Dean's spoons looked good when he posted them, so it's great to see them produce. The irony of having so many great spoons on the market, yet old school taping still works, is...

River reports...

Because of back surgery, I've been off the lake. Meanwhile, I like to monitor reports and conditions. Today I met with my surgeon (the report was good) but I also learned that he's become a fly fisherman! He's been fishing with someone who clearly knows his stuff, from Middlebury to Stowe and beyond...
