Re: Launch Ice conditions weekend of Jan 15th

Way late on this but as of today Burlington is pretty well locked up to the breakwater. Not a surprise with the cold we've had. Not sure how thick at Coast Guard but it isn't just skimmed over, that's for sure. Bets on if broad lake will close this year? Doesn't affect me unless I want the novelty o...

Re: Lake trout newbie - fall tactics?

I can catch them in November with simple long-lining crankbaits like Challengers or Shad Raps. Caught one a couple weeks back in only 15' or so feet of water. You can catch lakers anywhere on the broad lake. Burlington can be good. It's getting past the point of kayaking or canoeing, though. Can try...

Re: Silver search Saturday

I am heading out this afternoon, trying to decide on a location. Eric, hope you got out and your boat is running!!! Notable today was the flock of 200+ Canadian geese that seemed to want to land in front of us no matter where we trolled Geese are acting weird this fall. I've seen huge flocks on the...

Catching a Smelt (?)

Thought this would interest some here. Pulled up a smelt (?) while fishing for perch here up north. 55 FOW dropping nightcrawlers. I know they are rare in Champlain now and I thought guys mostly got them while ice fishing. P.S. I got a new boat! 14' Mirrocraft. Hoping to get some rods and slide dive...

Re: How's my plan for Friday? (Still in pursuit of first lake trout)

Best of luck. Remember once the water gets cold around October you can catch lakers fairly easily by casting or shallow-trolling crankbaits and spoons. Tight lines!

Re: Perch and Other Warm-Water Shenanigans

we saw two huge harbor seals, a Mola Mola, a whole bunch of diving ducks, a big unknown fish, (probably a striper) the striper Liam caught, etc. Secretly I am not a native Vermonter, though I've lived here since I was 19. I grew up near Cape Cod. Used to love to drive down to the water on a dreary ...

Re: Bass

Largemouth in the weeds, smallmouth are a little deeper now I think, before and around the first drop-off, off rocky points, etc. Soft plastics are effective BUT I kind of hate them now and don't use them, since I think they a. don't biodegrade in the lake and b. don't biodegrade in the fish's stoma...

Perch and Other Warm-Water Shenanigans

Quick post...finally got out a few times. We were hammering perch for a few weeks there in about 30-40FOW -- every single drop a perch -- then bang, it was over this week. I mean dead. Marking nothing, caught one small perch drifting over an hour. Very few white perch this spring/early summer compar...

Re: First Report In A Few Weeks

Those sheepshead put up an awesome fight. Very underrated. We found a massive school of perch, which we thought was some sort of malfunction on the Livescope at first. But, it turned out to be real. I found them stacked up, a 10' thick solid mark off the bottom this past week up here. Mixed whites a...

Re: Personal Agenda....

Is it just me, or do others feel Lake Champlain would have better fishing if it wasn't bordering VT? ?? Not even sure what this means. Vermont is one of the nicest places on all of Planet Earth and Lake Champlain one of the best freshwater fisheries anywhere. I am sure many would agree... even New ...

Re: Another Bay - from Shore

Great reports, love the details on conditions. This is from the Vermont F&W email fishing report last week: While the NY side of the mid-lake tends to be rockier and deeper close to shore, there are places on the Vermont side that are similar. Try spots like Arnold’s Bay, the Button Bay State Pa...

Awesome Matt. Been slow up north here for perch etc but water is still very cold, in the mid 40s. Should turn on soon. Nice report!
