IS smallmouths...

Fished the IS today with my new (Digitrol's old) boat...with the new baystar hydraulic steering. The steering worked GREAT!!, as did the new buggy bags and everything else. boatwise. :D The fisherman, however, was limited to a few smallies (nice smallies, but not what I was looking for today), and on...

Re: fishing in canada

I'll bet you'd fish in siberia if you lived there, or anywhere else, for that matter. some of the best fishing in the entire world in Canada, almost unlimited opportunities. In a leap year there are only 366 decent days to fish in a year.

IS Update

Woke up this a.m. to find that the IS has blown open! Haven't checked all of the boat ramps yet, and I'm sure there's still some floating ice here and there, but that'll clear up today. Whee! Thanks for all of the good wishes re: my new sweetheart - I'll try to do her proud.

LC Islands launch ramp update

Yesterday I made the circuit of the Islands again. Her's the current stattus of the ramps in the LC Islands. The WT data is iffy, due to my digital thermometer being on the fritz, so I used an analog one - interpolated to 1/2 degrees. These temps were taken at the shoreline, so may be irrelevant eve...

Re: Any love for a carp?

My Mother used to picle and can them. Never liked 'em much, but they're eatable. Tons of fun on the fly rod.

Re: Homewrecker hunting for warmer water

Thanks for the reply! The few lakers I've caught lately seemed to be empty, too. Just wondering what the bait's doing. Stick with it, its going to ice-out real soon. flyguy

Re: Homewrecker hunting for warmer water

What did you find inside the eaters? Had they been eating anything? Great report - thanks.

Re: Open Water in the IS

Glad to see the discussion re: access in the islands. I do know that the parking issue has been resolved at Apple Island. Without the docks being in the water, its hard to tell if the ramp has been improved at all. Certainly, it will be no worse than it has been. I was at the dedication ceremony thi...

Open Water in the IS

Almost launchable at Apple Island (despite the snow). I'd guess two or three days until limited access (the edge of the ice). My wife caught me sitting in the boat in our garage last night. Contrary to what you might have heard, I was NOT "making motorboat noises" and turning the helm. Jus...

Desperate times

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Walked out to the Mallett's Bay opening from S. Hero today. Tired of the ice, and not really confident in it anymore where I've been fishing (lots of noise). I only fish the ice out of frustration during the hard months, as I really prefer open water. Tri...
